Toleration

Last summer we had sweltering heat engulf Southeast Texas. Heat index's reached 110 and higher. It was horrible. Cement roadways were damaged. Many car windshields suffered cracks due to the intensity of the heat. Some folks even developed house foundation issues. I would break out in a full sweat in the 10 seconds it took to get an Amazon package at the front door. Point is, it was rough to deal with.

Just this past week an artic blast also hit the region. With it came frigid temperatures in the teens. It made traveling more difficult causing road closures. It caused pipes to burst. It was downright uncomfortable. I believe a part of my body could cut glass.

Although these were two entirely different weather phenomenon . They both had things in common. They made people feel uncomfortable and they were destructive . It wasn't pleasant to deal with.

This brings me to my point about this upcoming Presidential Election. Bless Nicky Haley's poor heart, but we know who's going to end up being the Republican Party Candidate for the presidency. Donald Trump. It's a forgone conclusion if you ask me. It appears he and the incumbent President Biden will be squaring off again.

What befuddles me is how we are stuck with these two again?  Did I mention they both are pushing 80? One guy has been brought up on countless charges and is battling the legal system to get his charges dismissed as we speak. Why this doesn't raise a red flag I don't know? But I digress. He's a bulletproof politician. Any other politician with his track record would have been cast astray. It's like the NBA player that's a leading vote getter for the All Star Game but hasn't played a game in 3 months. He's not deserving of the honor but he's the most popular. So he gets chosen. Never mind the lesser known candidates with an impeccable track record and new ideas that would go a long way in leading our nation the next 4 years.

The other candidate Joe Biden's son, Hunter has his own legal battles to contend with and the public questions whether Joe Biden is linked to his misdealings.Joe Biden has on many occasions shown he has issues with his health. He falls almost every time he walks on steps. He stumbles over words delivering speeches. At times I believe he forgets which base he's catering to. He's made questionable choices involving the Hamas and Israel conflict as well as Russia and Ukraine. All the while inflation has taken off like never before. Our money doesn't go as far as it use to.

We are in a bad state of affairs with this election. Americans are coming off as lazy. Few people are doing their homework on prospective candidates and settling on the one with name recognition. Either that or they select their party. That's how you end up with incompetent leadership. We aren't holding either side accountable. Imagine if the college football playoff committee would not have collected data on each of the respective teams they chose and not how their seasons went. When Florida State's qb got hurt it raised a red flag about the team's ability to compete in the College Football Playoff against other elite teams. So they were excluded. The same should be done even more so in reference to choosing our political leaders. It's asinine to pick someone to run a nation and not consider their questionable history. Especially as it relates to being President. Applicants on certain jobs have to have an immaculate resume and criminal record or otherwise they won't be considered. Is this not the same for the presidency? After all we are talking about the leader of the free world. A president is supposed to be held to a higher standard. For a great deal of people, I guess it does not.

I don't know if there's a serious independent who could come and crash the party. In my personal opinion I hope so. I am not encouraged either way. At this point I am leaning to vote one way versus the other just because they aren't the other guy. Not because I think he's a great leader. I would do so just because he's not the other guy. The fact that this is me and many others atttitude towards this election is not great. Not about policies and and stances on political matters. That's the sad truth ,but we really have no choice. When we are stuck with not so great choices. Do you want sardines or Spam?

Unfortunately as it stands we don't have that candidate that represents an 80 degree bright and sunny day. We are stuck with two flawed candidates. It is up to us to determine which uncomfortable choice would we prefer to tolerate. Either way it's going to be a rough 4 years. Buckle up.
